Official Opening of Rowan House by Provost Bob Scott on 11th May 2006
Rowan House is Finished! Foundation Stone Laying Putting the over-head Electricity Cable underground In 2001 a plot of land adjacent to Birch Cottage was purchased to facilitate a possible future development by Ochil Tower School. At the time it was uncertain how exactly the piece of land would be used, but it was clear that this would be the only adjacent plot that would come up for sale in the foreseeable future. In the course of the last 3 years, we investigated a number of uses for the plot, including facilities for independent living, craft rooms and nursery accommodation, etc. However, in the end we felt that the most sensible use of this piece of land was to build a replacement of the Coach House. This is part of an overall plan of concentrating school, craft and therapy accommodation around the Hall, Schoolhouse and Coach House Courtyard and have the residential buildings more at the periphery. The new house will provide 6 single rooms for residential pupils and co-worker accommodation. The house is designed to by as flexibility as possible in how the space is used, depending on the constellation of the house community and needs of the young people. |
