Health and well-being is central to the ethos of the school. Fresh fruit is
available throughout the day as is fresh juice and salads. And least two
vegetables are served with each meal and wholemeal or brown bread is available
for breakfast and supper. No food is cooked in deep fat fryers (sorry, no
chips!) and a vegetarian option is available at every meal. Meals are prepared
on site only using fresh ingredients and when in season these come from the
school's own vegetable garden which are grown by the children themselves.
Food
of course, is only one aspect of a healthy life style and exercise also plays an
important part in the lives of the children. This can range from having fun on
the adventure playground during break-time; walking the 'boundary walk';
cycling; swimming; canoeing; rock climbing, abseiling; as well as long
distance walking (see The Long Trek), hill-walking and mountaineering. During
the summer term all the children have the opportunity to go off on an Activity
Week which can even include learning survival skills in the woods!
